Congratulations to Our December Good Relative Award Winners! In partnership with The Keya Foundation we work to recognize our students on a monthly basis!

December’s theme celebrated students who showed respect this month. These students were nominated by school staff from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (C-EB) for Respect! Winners were selected by grade through a Spin-the-Wheel tool. Please join us in congratulating and feel free to tag family members of students listed to share in the recognition of their exemplary qualities!

⭐Naleah Rosas, Grade 6th, C-EB, nominated by Johanna Aberle. “She has always obey and follow school rules. She has shown respect to classmates, teachers, and staff by doing what she is asked to do without any complain.” (NOT PICTURED)

⭐Kendall Iron Bird, Grade 5th, C-EB, nominated by Rebecca Afraid of Hawk. “Kendall is kind soul. She never complains, always willing to help others, and is just an overall great student role model.”

⭐Aurelius Knight, Grade 4th, C-EB, nominated by Miss. Bush. “Aurelius is a student who always shows respect in everything he does. He listens, follows the rules, and uses his manners without ever being reminded. He’s kind to both staff and classmates, and you can always count on him to do the right thing. Aurelius is always ready to help others.”

⭐Zi Iciya Afraid of Hawk, Grade 3rd, C-EB, nominated by DeeAnne Ducheneaux. “Zi Iciya, translates to Paints Himself Yellow which fits him perfectly. Of course yellow is his favorite color and it represents a wide range of things: Positive emotions, happiness, optimism, and energy to caution and warning. This month's Good Relative features Respect within school and the community and Zi shines in both places. He shows respect to his Unci Pam by ensuring that her trash bins are pulled in and out on scheduled days. Holding the door for her and others. Using manners and speaking only after he's listened to other's shares. Participating in the buffalo harvests along side his mom and relatives provides a respectful outlook on his culture. I look forward to the sharing he does within class regarding this experience. He allows grace to others when needed and is always honest. His respectful nature will carry him through life for all the right reasons.” (NOT PICTURED)

⭐Scarlett Knife, Grade 2nd, C-EB, nominated by Sonia Webb, “Scarlett never talks when I am giving a lesson. She is respectful and uses respectful words when speaking to others.”

Other students who were nominated for Respect: Cante Talks, Hannah Rackard, Eliza Janis, Zintakla Lafferty, Owen Uses The Knife, L Shondo Talks, Jr., and Maske Lynch

Wopila Tanka to the school staff for your nominations and to the students for deserving them! Follow us to see next month’s winners and continue celebrating the Lakota values in our schools!

We’re excited to announce that C-EB Upper Elementary School has been selected as one of 28 districts statewide to receive the Elevating Literacy Across South Dakota (ELA-SD) Grant, totaling $600,000 for our school!

Funded through the federal Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant, this support will help us strengthen literacy instruction using the Science of Reading, ensuring students build strong reading and writing skills from the ground up.

The C-EB 6th Grade Natural Helpers wrapped up the year with a meaningful and fun December meeting! Students started with a role-modeling activity where they reflected on the positive role models in their lives — and how they can be that same support for their peers. 💛
From there, they jumped into planning for an upcoming February/Valentine’s Day project for students and teachers. We can’t wait to share more on that soon!
To finish the day, the group practiced teamwork-building skills and enjoyed ice cream floats as part of their Christmas celebration. 🎄🍦
These young leaders continue to inspire us. Stay tuned — big things are coming in the new year! 🌟
